Goyt Valley 3 - Strines to Romiley
The third walk exploring the valley of the River Goyt from Strines to Romiley. The walk starts by stopping to admire the Grade II listed Chinese Dovecote in the middle of a former print works reservoir. We then continue to the Roman Lakes (mill ponds) and the remains of Oldknow's Mellor Mill. There is then a short climb up to the Peak Forest Canal which is followed past Marple to cross the River Goyt on the Grade I listed Marple Aqueduct with the adjacent Marple Railway Viaduct. On reaching Hyde Bank Tunnel, we have to climb above the tunnel. The tunnel was legged through by John Noakes and Shep in the TV series Go With Noakes in 1978. As we reach the end of the tunnel, we head off to finish the walk at Romiley train station.
